Three NHS professionals are helping to put people in the picture about local healthcare services in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge (BHR).
With huge pressure on urgent care services and local hospital A&E departments, choosing the right place for treatment and advice has never been more important.
To help people choose wisely, the borough’s NHS clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) have produced three short videos highlighting the healthcare options in BHR.
The videos – which can be viewed on the CCGs’ websites – feature Barking GP Dr Jagan John, Hornchurch GP Dr Kofo Jegede and South Woodford pharmacist Lubna Patel (pictured).
They explain how to access evening or weekend NHS GP appointments, and how visiting a pharmacy or using the free NHS 111 service can help you get help you need more quickly.
Dr John, who is chair of Barking and Dagenham CCG, said: “If you do get ill or suffer a minor injury, there are lots of ways that you can get the right care you need in BHR.
“No one wants to spend hours sitting in A&E and you don’t need to, as there are quicker, easier ways to get treatment, or to be seen by a nurse or doctor.
“Going to the right place ensures you receive the help you require as quickly as possible, and it also helps to free up A&E for people with life threatening injuries and illnesses.”
The videos are just part of the ongoing work by the BHR CCGs and their health and social care partners to raise public awareness about community emergency urgent care services and relieve pressure on A&E teams at the King George and Queen’s hospitals.
Dr John added: “We hope that these videos will help people to choose wisely when they need treatment or advice – doing so will benefit patients and help the local NHS.”
