NHS plans to improve maternity services across north east London took a step forward today when the go ahead was given to close the labour ward at King George Hospital.

When you need medical help and advice but it s not a 999 emergency you can now call 111. The new NHS 111 service is now available in Waltham Forest Redbridge Barking & Dagenham and Havering 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
All patient services have now been successfully moved out of St George s hospital in Hornchurch following the recent discovery of higher than normal levels of Legionella bacteria in the water supply. Patients are now being cared for elsewhere.
Hospitals in our area are reporting more cases of the winter vomiting bug norovirus this year than is normal for this time of year . The illness is unpleasant but usually short-lived and the NHS is asking all of us to take some simple precautions to help stop its spread.

People living in Havering who have had a cough for three weeks or more should go to see their GP. It may be nothing serious but if you are suffering from other symptoms such as breathlessness as well it could be an early symptom of lung cancer.
